I have created this blog to document my trip to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) from 11th – 26th April 2012, which coincided with the birthday of Kim Il Sung on April 15th, probably the most important celebration inside the country for decades. My trip had an interesting backdrop – the death of Kim Jong Il in December 2011, a brief “leap day deal” with the USA in February 2012 which almost immediately fell through when the North revealed they’d be lauching a satellite (read: ICBM test) for the Great Leader’s birthday, and the ongoing revelation of the new young leader Kim Jong Un.

This has been my third (and probably last) trip to North Korea, the first two being for four days and two weeks in April and September 2008 respectively. For that reason i’ll be concentrating more on things that I didn’t see the last two times, as well as differences to my former trips.
